Gay Mormon Fobs

I am hesitant to segregate my friends by sexual orientation, but I have decided to do so, more or less, in my sidebar. The names you will find linked under the title "Gay Fobs," though, are not the names of every gay blogger I know. Rather, these are blogs that tend to be, for the most part, focused on issues related to homosexuality and particularly--in most cases--the intersection of sexuality and religion. Think of it in terms of the Dewey decimal system: if a blog would be catalogued as, for example, 921 Bunny, you will not find it linked under "Gay Fobs" because it is a biographical blog, not one focusing on sexuality. However, a blog that focuses on sexuality and therefore would be catalogued under something like 306.766 Sw24 will be found under that catchy heading.

The main reason I've decided to do this is that it occurs to me that people may be coming to my blog hoping to find a blog about being gay and Mormon, and while that is one of the things I blog about, it is not the focus of my blog. Those people, then, can find what they're looking for at the designated links.

I've not made any distinction as to marital status or current affiliation with the Church, by the way--anyone who self-identifies as gay and has some tie to the Mormon church or Mormon culture qualifies. If you don't like being classified as a gay Mormon Fob, let me know and I'll make the change. (It occurs to me, of course, that of the three terms--gay Mormon Fob--the one you object to might be "Fob." You are welcome to notify me of this objection. Just do so nicely.)

1. Have you considered switching to LC? It seems to be very popular.

2. Why not add subject headings to each blog in order to facilitate access?

3. Don't you think that tying a document without a physical expression to one class number is a somewhat archaic way of looking at the world? (You don't need to list each blog just once.)

4. Why tie yourself to a linear organization? Why not make a Venn diagram on your sidebar, with circles for "gay," "Mormon" and "Fob"?

(In reality, I think the current system's fine, but you can't throw out Dewey numbers and not expect me to comment. ;) )

Actually, if it's all the same to you, I liked my status as an honorary FOB ytaafp, better than the gay title. My blog has a little bit of everything depressing in nature, something of the religious, and not a whole lot of anything in general--trivia at its worst, life at its best. And it sort of feels like being demoted from an honorary (which almost sounds like a title) to a gay (which is most definitely a classification). I try to avoid anything finite, embrace everything ethereal, and always be in the queue to attend a fob party.

I like the new look, even if it has an absurd skyline in the banner.

I think I'm going to have to object to Katya's Venn diagram as it would lend itself to far too much confusion. For example at the central intersection, you would have both you and me, which would upset your erroneous notion that you are the center of everything.

Though I do thank you for the example/shout out.

I'm thinking of starting a blog all about sexuality. Will you put it in Straight Mormon Fobs?

I think I'll be using the words "happy," "healthy," "heaven" and "horny" with some regularity.
