A Harry Question

Currently halfway through the first one and enjoying it, but...

There are four houses at this school, right? And everyone knows that one is the evil house and it's run by evil teachers and produces evil students. Why, then, does it not occur to anyone that maybe, just maybe, they should consider cutting back to three houses? Or at least come up with a less sinister name than Slithering*?

And on that note, Foxy and I have decided to name our son Evillo. I'm sure it will have no impact on his personality.

*Okay, I just looked it up and discovered the name of the house is spelled Slytherin (I'm listening to the book on cd so I didn't know), but still I stand by my argument.

Yeah. That's funny, Lunkwill and his brothers were talking about that the other night. During which conversation this came up. Maybe you'd like it?

Because it is all about balance. Just because Slytherin procudecs an inordinant amount of evil wizards and witches does not mean that those traits the Slytherins have aren't valuable.

I have hopes that not all Slytherins will turn out evil.

Each of the houses have different qualities:

a) Gryffindor: House of Godric Gryffindor. Qualities are courage, chivalry & boldness.

b) Hufflepuff: House of Helga Hufflepuff. Qualities are patience , hard work & fair mindedness.

c) Ravenclaw: House of Rowena Ravenclaw. Qualities are intelligence, knowledge, and wit.

d) Slytherin: House of Salazar Slytherin. Qualities are a cunning mind & ambition.

The Slytherin House isn't evil by itself... the qualities of Slytherin house aren't evil by themselves. It's just when you get a whole bunch of cunning and ambitious people together, good things could happen. But more than likely the happenings will not be positive and less positive than if you got a whole bunch of Hufflepuffs together who value patience, hard work & fair mindedness.

Master FOB--
Have often had that same thought myself. But I guess if they kicked out the Slytherin house then they would just go and form their own school and focus soley on evil pursuits. At least at Hogwarts they are getting something of a balanced education.

Rub Foxy's belly and say hi to Evillo for me.
