Lessons Learned on FoxyJ's Birthday

1. When your body is not used to eating meat, having a beef and lamb gyro for lunch and then a pizza covered in every kind of pig part for dinner is not a good idea.

2. Costco's meat lovers' pizza has enough meat on it to produce the equivalent of a Hummer in greenhouse gases.

3. Even though you're buying two pizzas and there are three different kinds to choose from, it's okay to just get two of the one you know you like.

Happy Earth Day!

Celebrate by becoming a vegetarian!

If I were to start my own religion, I'd totally make one of the rules be that you should eat meat sparingly. Do you suppose many people would actually heed that counsel or would they blow it off in favor of flashier dietary restrictions on tobacco and alcohol? Hm. I wonder if anyone's ever tried something similar...

Bacheloroceries

I just got home from the grocery store. In my bag: a frozen pizza, tortilla chips, chocolate chips, a loaf of white bread, and a 32-ounce container of Yami strawberry yogurt. Do you think I'm sufficiently prepared for my five days of bachelorhood while Foxy and the kids are in Vegas with her parents?

This Morning So Far

  • I forgot to set my alarm for 6:00 in order to get up and register for next quarter. By the time I got up at 7:00 the class I need to graduate was already full.
  • The folded-up cardboard boxes I brought to give back to Tolkien Boy at the gym did not fit in the locker, as we were hoping they would.
  • When I got to the gym I realized I'd forgotten to bring gym clothes.

BUT
  • When I got to work there was a box of chocolate-covered donuts on the food-sharing table.

Self-Sacrifice

Tonight a friend had to decline an offered slice of the delicious peanut butter chocolate pie left in our fridge after another friend's visit last night. He explained that he does not have a nut allergy but his girlfriend does, which means that if he comes home with traces of peanut butter in his beard, she'll, like, die. In order to protect her from this fate, then, he denies himself the pleasures of peanuty goodness.

As someone who will often pull the peanut butter jar out of the cupboard just to sneak a fingerful, I can't help but see this as the highest and purest form of love.

Things That Have Made Me Happy in the Last 24 Hours

  • Last night I wrote a short story that I'd been wanting to write for a couple weeks. I like it. The title is "The Changing of the God," a pun that according to Google only eight people have thought of before, ever, and even several of those seem more like coincidences of syntax than intentional puns. I hereby declare myself clever. Given my co-editors' approval, it'll be in the forthcoming Fob Bible, about which you will hear more in the near future.
  • A very intelligent friend asked for help with a cataloging question this morning. I was quite flattered.
  • I registered this morning to take advanced cataloging next quarter from one of the leading researchers in the field of cataloging and knowledge organization.
  • I watched parts of a very funny movie this morning while cataloging it.
  • This afternoon S-Boogie and Little Dude went to a friend's house while Foxy and I went on a date.
  • We saw some very cool exhibits at the Bellevue Arts Museum, which has free admission on the first Friday of every month.
  • We ate some very yummy avocado eggrolls and Thai chicken pasta at the Cheesecake Factory.
  • We are now going to eat the very yummy cheesecake that we brought home with us.

And Speaking of Sweet Potato Fries

A year or two ago, FoxyJ came across this cookbook or food website or something that suggested making fries with sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes. So she chopped up some sweet potatoes, salted them, and baked them. They were the best thing ever. We had them a few times and wondered why restaurants don't serve sweet potato fries instead of plain old boring potato fries. So we were happy to see tonight that Kidd Valley, a local burger chain, received our psychic suggestion and has started serving sweet potato fries. They actually fry them so they're not quite so healthy, but they're just as yummy. (Possibly even yummier, if you can improve on perfection.)

I've decided that the only possible reason sweet potato fries have not already replaced crappy potato fries in the American fast food pantheon is that the potato mafia in Idaho is using its political power to squash the sweet potato fry industry before it gets off the ground. Don't let them get away with it, people! Go to your grocery stores and buy sweet potatoes, then make them into fries! Go to your burger joint and demand sweet potato fries! Boycott the non-sweet potato industry!

And don't bother saying that you've tried sweet potato fries and they were not the absolute greatest thing ever, anyone, because such lies will only expose your evil nature and your corrupt connection to the Idahoan potato underground.

Healthy Choices Made at Dinner Tonight, Eaten at Kidd Valley in Celebration of FoxyJ's New Job

  1. Instead of a double cheeseburger or bacon cheeseburger, a cheeseburger.
  2. Instead of sweet potato fries and onion rings, sweet potato fries.
  3. Instead of a large chocolate shake, a regular chocolate shake.

I am so on my way to losing that extra body fat.
