I think what he's saying is that we need to have gays, women, blacks, etc., all represented EQUALLY in this country, whether it is in politics or elsewhere. We need equality on every level.
Ben, I got choked up watching that. Thanks. I can't wait to see the movie.
Julie: Of course it doesn't mean that. Duh. He said we need to elect more gays, not more women! Okay, seriously, I had the same thought when I watched it. I honestly don't know more about this man besides what's in the clip here, so I can't speak for him, but I would qualify that by saying "We need to elect gays/women/people of color who are qualified for the job." Barack Obama is a good example. He's the best candidate because of who he is, but the fact that he's black sends a powerful message to black kids who otherwise see their career options as athlete, rapper, or gangster. Given a straight white man and a gay person, a person of color, or a woman who is equally qualified for the job, then yes, I would vote for the candidate who is part of an under-represented class of people. In Sarah Palin's case, I don't see her as anywhere near equally qualified when standing next to Joe Biden.
Craig: I'm missing something here. Is someone making a biopic of Harvey Milk?
Ah, now I have. I tend to be unaware of new movies unless they (a) are based on comic book characters, (b) are mentioned on a blog I read, or (c) come up during the course of my work.

Now I feel like marching out and putting on a one man gay pride rally in my front yard. Would that upset the neighbors?
I take exception to the line "We need to elect gays," because does that then mean we need to elect Sarah Palin because she is a women?

I love this video. And the movie looks GREAT.
Now I'm anxious to see it.
"Scot: That depends. Are you dressed?"
Well yeah. Do I seem like the sort of person to blog in the nude?
Wait, I'm sorry, doesn't everybody?
