The 684th Law of Parenting

If your children are playing quietly in their bedroom, enjoy it while it lasts, but know that you will pay a price for your peace when you find out what they've been up to.

When I opened the bedroom door tonight I expected much of the mess that awaited me--clothes, toys, and books strewn across the floor--but what I didn't foresee was the dirty diapers extracted from the diaper pail and spread around the room. I hope I found them all.

Ummm...wow.

I can't even begin to express my sympathetic dismay. I'd like to empathize, as well, but my kids were too grossed out by the smell of dirty diapers to think of them as play things.

I hope you got them all, too.

Thanks. Thankfully we tie the poopy diapers up in individual plastic bags, so that saved me from the really horrible and foul mess it could have been.

After one such period of silence I came to find the boys were “cleaning the bathroom,” which wouldn’t have been so bad if they weren’t using the toilet’s water as a cleaning agent.
