I've started doing chat reference for the library. The nice thing about this is that I can sign up for an hour and work from home. I can get paid to sit in front of my computer in my jammies. The bad thing is that I need to overcome my chat anxiety. This might be easier to do if someone had actually asked a question during the hour I was watching.
I also have chat anxiety. I don't have any IM accounts and I would rather send about twenty emails in five minutes than do the chat thing.
ReplyDeleteIf you tell me when you're working (and if I'm near a computer), I'll chat with you and ask you nice, safe librarian-y questions, and I won't be offended if you suddenly have to leave to talk to a real patron.
